I have two overriding memories of the last home game v Notts, Azhar Ali’s magnificent innings in very difficult circumstances (‘very hard’ were the words he used in a chat up at Taunton Vale), and the spin attack led by Dom Bess who got nothing for a whole session and then virtually bowled them out by the time I had driven home.
As Steve says we need to get behind our team and success will be ours at Edgbaston.
Can’t help thinking that there were other contributory factors to this defeat than first meet the eye.
Was there too greater a feeling of over confidence after the T20 QF win? Or did that game just take too much adrenalin out of the players?
Given Notts record especially at Taunton did we totally underestimate them?
Was there a feeling of deflation after the pumped up H00?
Was there a genuine lack of red ball practice - should we have got more out of the seconds match v Essex.? Other counties including Notts managed it.
Are we that reliant on Lewis and Craig? This and the Leicestershire match might say ‘Yes’
Or were we simply not good enough in which case I fear for our championship ambitions?
Whilst we get over this defeat and although I will be just down the road from Scarborough next week, circumstances dictating that I will not be able to attend, nevertheless I for one will be on the digital stream as soon as it opens up.
